Frontline Healthcare Partners Announces Investment in Bay Area Clinical Associates

Investment to Support Growth Strategy for Leading Provider of Outpatient Mental Healthcare to Children, Adolescents and Young Adults

Charleston, SC – April 4, 2022

Frontline Healthcare Partners, a private equity firm focused exclusively on investing in leading distributed healthcare businesses, announced today an investment in Bay Area Clinical Associates (“BACA” or the “Company”), in partnership with CEO Dr. Thomas Tarshis and Dr. Stephen Setterberg.

Since 2007, BACA has been on a mission to destigmatize mental healthcare and provide youth with access to integrated and affordable care. Based in California’s Bay Area, the Company provides a comprehensive continuum of mental health services to children, adolescents, young adults and their family members. Over the past several years, BACA has grown into one of the leading privately-held providers of mental healthcare services for California’s youth, operating clinics in San Jose, Berkeley and a recently opened clinic in San Diego.

“We’ve been approached by many groups with an interest in investing in the Company,” said Tom Tarshis MD, MPH, founder and CEO of BACA. “With Frontline, we believe we found a fantastic partner who can help us to accelerate our next phase of growth as we expand our geographic reach and continuum of services nationwide in order to serve more patients and their families.”

With this investment, Frontline plans to support the BACA management and its world-class clinical team of psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed therapists and medical practioners to increase the breadth and scope of the Company’s mental health services focused on today’s youth and their families.

“Frontline’s focus is to work with provider-based organizations, like BACA, who are looking to increase access to ethical, evidence-based care. We believe that Dr. Tarshis and his team have built a company that combines talent, compassion and professionalism with operating prowess and technology that puts BACA squarely where we want to be – on the right side of healthcare,” said Dennis Smith, Partner at Frontline.

BACA currently has over 80 youth-focused clinicians, including 35 child and adolescent psychiatrists, one of the largest such groups on the West Coast, dedicated to working in a multidisciplinary team approach to care for children, adolescents, young adults and their families.

Charley French, Partner at Frontline, added, “Mental health has long been an under-served and under-provided healthcare service sector in the United States. We believe BACA’s unique clinical model, placing an emphasis on the importance of psychotherapy treatments in the continuum of mental healthcare services for today’s youth is the best treatment for mental illnesses and that approach will underpin the Company’s continued growth. We look forward to helping BACA to expand services in California and nationwide and continue to support infrastructural needs, including investment in proprietary technology, that will help make the Company an optimal environment for clinicians, staff and the delivery of mental health services.”
